There’s a lot of noise out there about digitization. Agile, interdisciplinary teams and eveything lean should make it. But at the heart of all this effort, to be innovative and build new businesses or companies, the DNA starts with the abilty to evolve quickly, iterate your assumptions and validate your hypotheses to avoid building products nobody needs.

According to Jeff Bezos in 2004 “If you double the number of experiments you do per year you’re going to double your inventiveness.”, there is a lot of truth in the quote of Wyatt Jenkins “Growth is simply a series of experiments“.
Earlier this year, I had the great opportunity to attend a Kanban workshop at the new Spotify headquarters in Manhattan. Not just the workshop with Klaus Leopold was incredibly great. The insight into the engineering culture of Spotify and the collaboration with the Agile Coaches was more than interesting.
The impressions below show, that they know, how to attract employees:
Kanban itself is a great approach to gaining focus, which I hardly recommend to every organization. The “Stop Starting, Start Finishing” philosophy is the key to getting things done. Lot of people talk about it, but very few know really what Kanban is.
I have this vision, that a super-hero team will jump in the company to sky-rocket the business. Just with their Business Stack and a smile. Unfortunately, they will never come. But the intresting question is: How would they rock it? Their Business Stack, a set of principles and practices, isn’t a secret. But why are some teams successful and others don’t?
Certainly, there are a lot of reasons. But the simple truth is, if your vision is not realistic, you will fail. Even Lean Thinking, pivoting and the best Business Stack can’t be successful, if the company is steering towards a poor vision. There is much truth in the saying “Ideas are nothing, execution is all”, but in this case, vision trumps. Agile is not a substitution for vision.
Because the superhero team will never come, I’ve tried to figure out their Lean Business Stack. You see the result below.
